Fourteen local game organizations.
New Mexico Senior Olympics, Inc. has sanctioned fourteen local game organizations to support the statewide mission and philosophy of the organization on a year-round basis. Sanctioned games sites have agreed to conduct annual local games in accordance with the sport playing rules that govern the annual State Summer Games. Local Games vary in size and are generally scheduled during the months of February thru May. Local Game sites also, support the year- round health promotion activities of NMSO. Local Games are encouraged to organize regular sport practice sessions for older adults to assist with skill development and playing rules, for sports like shuffleboard, pickleball, horseshoes, 8-Ball Pool and to recruit new participants to the local games.
Each Local Game Site utilizes a volunteer local board of directors of committed senior sport advocates and senior athletes to plan and implement local activities. Local Games operate independently and are governed by local senior programs and/or local recreation programs. Each Local Game has enlisted a Local Game Coordinator to maintain regular communication with the state office of NMSO.
