New Mexico Senior Olympics isn’t just a once-a-year event—it’s a vibrant, year-round movement! Across the state, 14 sanctioned Local Game sites are bringing the spirit of friendly competition and active aging to communities just like yours.

What Are Local Games?

Local Games are your first step into the world of Senior Olympics. Hosted in cities and counties throughout New Mexico, these events are designed for adults 50+ who want to stay active, meet new people, and have fun competing. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just getting started, there’s a place for you on the field, court, or course.

Each Local Game organization:

Hosts annual competitions between February and May
Follows the same sport rules used at the State Summer Games
Offers regular practice sessions, skill-building events, and game rules education
Works to recruit new athletes and grow the community
Is led by a dedicated volunteer board of senior sport advocates
Operates independently under local senior or recreation programs

Why Compete Locally?

Competing in Local Games is more than great exercise—it’s your chance to qualify for the NMSO State Summer Games, sharpen your skills, and become part of a supportive network of active adults. Many of our local coordinators also run practices and clinics to help you prep and perform your best.

Local Games in New Mexico are sanctioned in fourteen (14) counties/communities 
Local Game support the statewide mission to promote active lifestyles for all seniors 50 years and older. 
Local Games offer sports based on local athlete interest and available venues/facilities. 
Seniors compete in 5-year age divisions starting at 50-54. 
A volunteer local game coordinator oversees the planning of local games. 
Participants enjoy the camaraderie that the games offer. 
Sport playing rules are consistent with State Senior Olympics. 
Pre-qualifying is not required to compete at the annual state games in New Mexico. 
Local games operate under the guidance of a volunteer advisory committee/board. 
Practice sport sessions are organized based on local interest.   
State Senior Olympics communicates with Local Games organizations regularly. 
Technical assistance for local game management is available at State Senior Olympics.  
Senior Olympics Games in New Mexico started in 1979.  
There are two state games held in New Mexico for individual sports,  – Winter and Summer. 
Senior Olympics State Team Sports are held for Softball, Volleyball and Basketball 3 on 3.
