“NO SHOWS”
A Problem for Everyone

Every year at New Mexico Annual State Games people change their minds and do not show up at their events. Everybody has emergencies from time to time—this is understandable or maybe, as Bill Greaves says “The St. Bernard ate your badminton racket.

It is becoming a major problem. No one has a good experience when people change their minds about attending an event, overlap too many events, or just decide not to show up with out notifying any one. Other athletes who have to wait on empty shuffleboard courts or on a hot tennis courts or any number of other events are getting very frustrated. Athletes do not understand why they can not play when the courts are obviously empty.

The Event Manager has to explain that all the times are pre-set and he/she has to wait 15 minutes for a default. These fifteen minute delays can snowball into delays of over an hour. The event managers spend hours pouring over their brackets and fine tuning their events to make them run as smoothly as possible. Noshows make this very difficult.

If this happens to be something you do, we would like to make a suggestion. NMSO believes that if you had a way of notifying the Event Manager prior to your event, you would do so. On behalf of the Event managers and the Event Organizers, not to mention all the folks that have to keep track of the medals and equipment, we ask you to call the Event Manager and tell them you will not be coming prior to your scheduled time. Also, this year at the Sport tables will be a special form to fill out so you can let the Event Manager know you will not be coming.

You might say, “But I overlap on purpose just in case I can make it to my other events.”

We would ask you, “Is that fair to the other people that get delayed due to your over-scheduling?”

You might ask “What if I change my mind?” We would recommend you call the Event Manager back and see if they can fit you in. Events progression is complicated, the final decision on whether or not you can be allowed to play is up to the Event Managers.

NMSO wants you to have fun, enjoy your friends, and experience a great competition. So, please, if you know you can’t make it to your event, call the Event Manager or come by the Sport table and fill out a cancellation form for that specific event prior to your competition.
