| The New Mexico Senior Olympics Courage Award
for 2007 is presented to MARGARET GOLD from Las Cruces, NM. The Courage
Award was established to recognize and honor a current Senior Olympian
athlete that competes in spite of his/her medical non-reversible
condition. The Courage Award was inspired by the late William Lizut,
Senior Olympic swimmer, for his shinning example of courage and was
established in 2004 by the New Mexico Senior Olympics Board of
Directors.
Margaret Gold, is 79 years of age and has a last name associated with
winning and her attitude reflects the gold. Margaret is tethered to an
oxygen tank due to her emphysema.
Margaret volunteers year round with the local Senior Olympics office
for her clerical skills and always makes time to be active in sports.
Currently competes in three sports; 8 ball pool, shuffleboard and
Bowling the “love of my life” she says.
Margaret has been known to fill in as local registrar when needed and
works tirelessly on the telephone to remind local athletes of upcoming
events. You will find Margaret volunteering at the upcoming Summer Games
at the athlete check in area. She truly is an advocate for Senior
Olympics and we congratulate her on receiving the 2007 Courage Award.
